Happy new year, everyone! You have a clean slate, lots of runway. Let’s get going and accomplish something writerly in 2021!
Apologies! We are having tech headaches with the YouTube link to the Jan. meeting. I’ll post it as soon as I can.
At our January meeting, thirty people attended, a good turnout. Some attended from a distance: Yucca Valley, Palm Desert, and even Arizona. That’s the silver lining of our current pandemic-restricted meetings. Although I miss getting together at Emilio’s for a cheese enchilada and a beer. You, too?
President Jim Hitt started the meeting by reminding everyone his term ends this October, by which time somebody will need to step forward. From the start of the Guild, we’ve tried to keep things simple so board work would be more like a hobby, not a profession. You might be surprised at how low-key even the position of President is. We have a Webmaster who handles the website and Facebook, an editorial trio that publishes Straitjackets Magazine, a Treasurer who handles the money, a VP who handles membership, and a Member-at-Large who has her finger on the pulse of membership. The President is guided by these folks.
If you’re not a member yet, it’s only $20 per calendar year to support the Guild. In return, you receive these benefits:

Writer’s Corner with Sandy Schuster-Hubbard
Sandy talked about Beta Readers–what they are and are not, what they can and cannot do, and how to communicate with your team to achieve the best outcome. After the meeting, Kathleen Osborne provided this helpful Beta Reader Cover Letter. Click to download the PDF.
This Month’s Speaker, Tim Riter
Many thanks to Tim Riter who talked with us about the four basic principles that can elevate our writing to the highest level. Tim was an engaging speaker and we appreciate his taking the time to speak with us.
Thanks to all of you for your patience as we dealt with technical difficulties in uploading the video. The link is here:
